On December 12th, 2002 (November 9th, 2002 in the lunar calendar), I completed the world's first "fine map" spectrum of rice genome. On the morning of December 12, 2002, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the State Planning Commission, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China announced in Beijing that the "fine map" of Chinese rice (indica) genome has been officially completed by Chinese scientists. This is the world's first fine map of crop genomes, which makes it possible to clarify the genetic basis of basic biological traits of rice and improve the yield and quality of rice. This "fine map" completed by Genome Informatics Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences and other units covers 97% of the gene sequences of indica rice, of which 97% of the genes are accurately located on chromosomes; The single base accuracy of chromosome mapping sequence covering 94% of the genome is 99.99%, which has reached the internationally recognized standard of gene fine mapping. Biologists worked closely with computer experts and high-energy physicists to create an original computing software system for genome assembly, which made China occupy a leading position in the emerging cross-cutting field of bioinformatics.
