Sixty years ago today, on July 2, 1965 (June 4, 1965 in the lunar calendar), Li Zongren returned from overseas. Li Zongren On July 2, 1965, Mr. Li Zongren, former acting president of the Kuomintang government, and his wife, Ms. Guo Dejie, returned from overseas. Zhou Enlai, chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Premier of the State Council, Peng Zhen, vice chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, and his wife Zhang Jieqing welcomed them at the airport. Mr. Li returned home from overseas, and Mr. Cheng Siyuan. Li Zongren read out the statement at the airport, in which he thanked the Communist Party of China (CPC) and state leaders for their care and warm welcome. He also hoped that the Kuomintang people who stayed in Taiwan Province would be conscious of the national justice, resolutely return to the embrace of the motherland, unite to resist the United States, unite with the outside world, and make useful contributions to the final reunification of the country. On July 27th, Chairman Mao Zedong met with Mr. Li Zongren and his wife, Ms. Guo Dejie. Chairman Mao warmly shook hands with Mr. Li Zongren and his wife. Chairman Mao said, "It's good that you are back. Welcome. Anyone who goes overseas is willing to come back is welcome. When they come back, we all treat each other with courtesy." Chairman Mao also said: The motherland is stronger than in the past, but it is not very strong. We have to build it for at least another twenty or thirty years before we can really become strong. After the interview, Chairman Mao Zedong and his wife Jiang Qing hosted a banquet for Mr. Li Zongren, his wife Ms. Guo Dejie and Mr. Cheng Siyuan. On July 31, Chairman Liu Shaoqi, Vice Chairman Dong Biwu, and General Secretary Deng Xiaoping met with Mr. Li Zongren, his wife, Ms. Guo Dejie, and Mr. Cheng Siyuan. After the interview, Chairman Liu Shaoqi and other leaders hosted a banquet in honor of Mr. Li Zongren, Ms. Guo Dejie and Mr. Cheng Siyuan.
