Eighty-five years ago today, on July 6, 1940 (June 2, 1940 in the lunar calendar), the Eighth Route Army smashed the Japanese and puppet "mopping-up" in northwest Shanxi. The 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army rushed to the front line. On July 6, 1940, the Japanese and puppet troops that were "mopping up" in northwest Shanxi were completely defeated, and the Eighth Route Army won the anti-"mopping up". This "mopping-up" started at the end of May. The Japanese army first cut off the contact between the Eighth Route Army in northwest Shanxi and the Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia Border Region, and then encircled and attacked the central area of the anti-Japanese base area in northwest Shanxi. On June 7th, the Japanese army carried out a large-scale "mopping-up" to the base area from the east, south and north with more than 20,000 troops. The Japanese army occupied Lan County on the 8th, and on the 11th, it launched an attack on Wenshui and Jiaocheng in multiple ways. On the 12th, a joint attack was carried out on Shuanglong Town and Jiuzhen area in the northwest of Wenshui by 9 routes. The 120th Division and local armed forces moved in time, and the Japanese army flew into the air. On the 20th, the Japanese army encircled the central area of the base area in many ways. The 120th Division of the Eighth Route Army adopted the operational policy of dispersing and moving to the outside line to attack the enemy's rear, and dealt with the enemy. By June 26, the Japanese army began to retreat under the severe blow of the 120th Division. On the 28th, the Japanese army independently mixed the 9th Brigade with about 4,000 people, which were dispatched from Yaotou Village, Lanxian County and other places, and rushed to Xingxian County in an attempt to eliminate the main force of the 120th Division and the 358th Brigade. The 120th Division concentrated six regiments of its main force to set up ambushes on both sides of the place where the enemy must pass. On the morning of July 4th, when more than 1,000 Japanese troops entered the area near Ershilipu east of Xingxian County, they were ambushed and more than 700 people were annihilated. As the ambush troops of the 120th Division failed to form an encirclement on time, the remaining Japanese troops were able to escape to meet with their friends and neighbors. The main force of the 120th Division withdrew from the battle. On the 6th, the Japanese army withdrew from Lan County. This anti-"mopping-up" operation lasted one month and fought 251 times, killing and wounding 4,490 Japanese and puppet troops, capturing 53 prisoners, and seizing more than 3,000 guns, consolidating the anti-Japanese base area in northwest Shanxi.
