18 November 1918 Latvia declares independence
Today, 107 years ago, on November 18, 1918 (Calendar 15 October 1918), Latvia declared its independence. After the victory of the Russian October Revolution, the Latvian people actively engaged in the struggle for independence. At the time the First World War was still ongoing, Latvia was occupied by the German army. In November 1918, Germany defeated. Latvia immediately established a People's Assembly. On November 18, the People's Assembly declared Latvia's independence. Soon, the Western powers also recognized this new country in succession.
