105 years ago today, on November 28, 1920 (October 19, 1920, the lunar calendar), Sun Yat-sen returned to Guangzhou to reorganize the military government. On November 28, 1920, Sun Yat-sen arrived in Guangzhou from Shanghai with Tang Shaoyi, Wu Tingfang and others and delivered a speech at the station. He said: "Our return this time is with the intention of carrying out construction in Guangdong to set a model for the whole country and establish the foundation for peaceful reunification." He delivered a speech at a banquet at the Guangdong Province Administration that night and pointed out: "Our country must be unified, but rule by the people is the unified method. Then it can last forever... Force is no more than an aid to the people's governance. It is a last resort and should not be used lightly." On November 29, Sun Yat-sen sent a telegram announcing the restoration of the military government. On the same day, the first government meeting was held. The military government was headed by Sun Yat-sen and concurrently served as Minister of Internal Affairs. It elected Tang Shaoyi as Minister of Finance, Tang Jiyao as Minister of Communications, Chen Jiongming as Minister of Army, Wu Tingfang as Minister of Foreign Languages, Xu Qian as Minister of Justice, Tang Tingguang as Minister of Navy, Li Liejun as Chief of Staff, and appointed Chen Jiongming as Governor of Guangdong and Commander-in-Chief of the Guangdong Army. Since then, a confrontation between the north and south governments has taken shape.
