John Woo, SBS, BBS(English name: John WooYu-Sen, born September 23, 1946), was born in Guangzhou and grew up in Hong Kong. He is a Hong Kong and Hollywood director and screenwriter. He graduated from Hip Hop Primary School in Kowloon, where he studied at the Sister of Delia Memorial School (Matteo Ricci) and graduated from the Lutheran Cooperative Secondary School in Tai Hang Tung. In 1973, John Woo directed his first independent film. In 1986, the film "The True Character of Heroes" he wrote and directed won the two awards of Best Picture and Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards that year. In the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards, John Woo was named Best Director. From this film, John Woo created his own unique film style, holding high the banner of violence aesthetics in the Eastern Hemisphere, echoing Oliver Stone and Quentin Tarantino in the Western Hemisphere. In 2005, during the "100 Years of China Film" event organized by the Hong Kong film and art industry, John Woo was selected by Hong Kong as the favorite director in the past 100 years.
