Breaking-News >> TodayHistory June 29, 1900 Assassination of the King of Italy
On this day, 125 years ago, June 29, 1900 (June 3, 1900 in the lunar calendar), the Italian King was assassinated. Late at night on June 29, 1900, King Humbert I of Italy was shot and killed by an anarchist named Angelo Bresi. Anarchists claim that this achieved revenge for the 1898 Milan massacre. During that massacre, the king mobilized artillery to slaughter workers and bloody suppress a workers 'uprising. During his 22-year rule, Humbert worked hard to strengthen the monarchy and pursued conservative policies. His foreign policy led to the conclusion of the Trilateral Alliance. His 31-year-old son Viktor Emmanuel succeeded to the throne. On May 23, 1901, Gaetano Bresi, the murderer of King Humbert, committed suicide while awaiting execution in prison.
