The Amazon Cooperation Treaty was signed on July 3, 2004.
On July 3, 1978, representatives of eight countries located in the Amazon basin of Latin America, such as Brazil, Peru, and others, officially signed the Amazon Cooperation Treaty, forming the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization. From November 1977 to May 1978, representatives of eight countries in Brazil, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela held three preparatory conferences, and on July 3, 1978 signed a cooperation treaty. The treaty emphasizes the joint efforts, support, exchange of experience and close cooperation between the parties to conduct scientific exploration, conservation, ecological development, natural resources, construction of land, water, air, transport and communications facilities in the region, and promote the development of trade and tourism in the border region to ensure balanced economic growth and coordinated development in the region.
