107 years ago today, on August 19, 1918 (July 13, 1918 in the lunar calendar), the poet Li Shutong became a monk. After becoming a monk and toned, Li Shutong was named Hongyi. On August 19, 1918, Li Shutong, a famous man who was once elegant and leisurely among celebrities on the sea, quietly escaped into the empty door. In 1915, Li Shutong concurrently served as a picture music instructor at Nanjing Normal University, commuting between his homes in Hangzhou, Nanjing and Shanghai every month. He formed the "Leshi Society" in Hangzhou and was promoted as its president. He also traveled from Wu Changshuo to join the "Xiling Seal Society" as a member. Xia Guizun, Jiang Danshu, Ma Yifu and other literary celebrities had close interactions with him. Ma Yifu was already a well-known layman. His study of Buddhism had a profound influence on Li. Once, Xia Guizun introduced him to an article in a Japanese magazine about fasting, saying that fasting was a cultivation method to "renew" the body and mind. During the winter vacation of 1916, Li Shutong quietly came to the Hupaodao Dinghui Temple in Daci Mountain, where 17 people were fasting and experienced the tranquility of Buddhism and felt good. He changed his name to Li Ying in Lao Zi's words "can be babies", showing his intention to be reborn. After returning to school, although he taught as usual, he chanted sutras like a vegetarian, and his wisdom became clear in his words. During the Spring Festival last year, Li Shutong reentered Huopao Dinghui Temple as a layman to practice tranquility. It happened that Ma Yifu introduced his friend Peng Xunzhi to cut his hair and become a monk. Li Shutong was greatly moved and immediately converted to Monk Wu as a disciple at home.
