On this day, 60 years ago, August 9, 1965 (July 13, 1965 in the lunar calendar), the Republic of Singapore was established. The Republic of Singapore was founded. Singapore became a British colony in 1824. In 1926, it merged with Malacca and Binlangyu to form the British "Strait Colony". From February 1942 to August 1945, it was occupied by Japan.
