On this day, 33 years ago, November 13, 1992 (October 19, 1992 in the lunar calendar), an attempted coup occurred in Peru. In the early morning of November 13, 1992, the Peruvian government and military defeated a military coup, and the leader of the coup was arrested. There was no bloodshed. According to reports, the coup was carried out by three army lieutenant generals who retired at the beginning of the year and one army lieutenant colonel who was under investigation for suspected drug trafficking. According to witnesses, nearly a hundred soldiers approached the presidential palace in the early morning of the 13th, but did not exchange fire with the military police guarding the presidential palace and quickly retreated. A notice issued by the Peruvian Presidential Palace on the afternoon of the 13th stated that "a small group of soldiers" attempted to occupy the Presidential Palace and the Army Command, planning to assassinate President Fujimori and kidnap Nicolas de Bari, Chairman of the Joint Command of the Armed Forces. The announcement said the coup elements attempted to overthrow Fujimori's government, establish a "regime favorable to their own and restore the political situation before April 5."
