Breaking-News >> TodayHistory May 18, 1214 Xuanzong moved south
On this day, 811 years ago, on May 18, 1214 (April 8, 1214, the lunar calendar), Xuanzong moved south. Yunji, the self-defense King of Shao of the Jin Dynasty, ascended the throne, and the country's power became increasingly weak. Genghis Khan led the Mongolian army to launch a war against the Jin Dynasty. In the second year of Da 'an (1211), he attacked and plundered Datong Prefecture in Xijing of the Jin Dynasty (now Datong, Shanxi Province). In the first year of Chongqing (1212), he defeated Liaoyang Prefecture in Tokyo of the Jin Dynasty (now Liaoyang, Liaoning Province). In the first year of Zhenyou (1213), he besieged Daxing Prefecture in Zhongdu (now Beijing). At the same time, conflicts within the ruling class of the Jin Dynasty intensified. In August of that year, He Shilie, the Deputy Marshal of the Right of the Jin Dynasty stationed in the north of Zhongdu, killed King Wei Shao. Zi Zhangde welcomed Shizong Sun and Wanyan Xun into Zhongdu, which was the throne (Jin Xuanzong). In March 1214, Emperor Xuanzong of the Jin Dynasty sent envoys to seek peace with the Mongolian army. After Genghis Khan received generous contributions from the Jin Dynasty, he retired to Yuerluo (now Dalainoer, Keshiketeng Banner, Inner Mongolia). The Jin Dynasty Marshal Wanyan Bi, Zuo Dujian, and Geng Ruiyi, the governor of the Jin Dynasty, decided to move the capital of Nanjing (today's Kaifeng, Henan). Tushan Yi, Prime Minister of the Left, and Wanyan Congyi, King of Huo of the imperial clan, opposed it. Xuanzong decided to move the capital due to the lack of food in Central Capital of Jin and the inability to respond. Four hundred people, including Zhao Fang, a student of the Imperial College, wrote a letter to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of moving the capital. Xuanzong refused to accept it, saying that "the plan has been decided and cannot be stopped." At the beginning of May, Pusanduan, who stayed behind in Nanjing, and Chang Shou, the commander of the Henan Army, and Wang Zhi, the commander of the inspection and transfer envoy, submitted three petitions, requesting to move south to Bianjing. On May 11, Xuanzong issued an edict to move south, leaving Wanyan Fuxing, the Left Prime Minister and Marshal of the Capital, and Mole, the Left Minister of the Shang Shu, to serve as the assistant Prince Wanyan Shouzhong in the capital. On the 17th, the train started with jewelry and documents. The next day, Xuanzong fled south from Zhongdu. The following year, Zhongdu was captured by the Mongolian army. When Xuanzong moved south, people from all over the country revolted against the Jin Dynasty. The Mongolian army continued to invade the south, and the Jin Dynasty was in the final stage of its decline.
