172 years ago today, September 7, 1853 (August 5, 1853 in the lunar calendar), the Shanghai Xiaodao Hui Uprised. After the Opium War, the payment of reparations and five-port trade intensified the contradictions in China society. Farmers rose up one after another. Especially after the Jintian Uprising, farmers from all over the country responded actively. Liu Lichuan, the leader of the Small Knife Association, was from Xiangshan, Guangdong (present-day Zhongshan). He worked as a shopping mall broker and later became the leader of the Shanghai-Guangzhou Tiandi Association. Another leader, Pan Qiliang, from Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, was the leader of the secret group Miaobang. Later, Miaobang and Tangqiao Bang merged to join the Small Knife Association. In 1853 (the third year of Xianfeng of the Qing Dynasty), after preparations for the Xiaodao Fair, an armed uprising was launched in Shanghai on September 7 (the fifth day of August). The rebels occupied Shanghai, and Liu Lichuan called it the Great Ming Kingdom (later renamed the Taiping Rebellion). In charge of politics and politics, Pan Qiliang was appointed as General Flying Tiger. The Xiaodao Society fought against the Qing army and the invading troops of the United States, Britain and France for 18 months, and broke through from Shanghai in February 1855. Liu Lichuan died in Hongqiao. Pan Qiliang joined the Taiping Army after breaking through and continued to deal a heavy blow to the Qing army and the invaders.
