57 years ago today, on December 10, 1968 (October 21, 1968 in the lunar calendar), dramatist Tian Han passed away. Tian Han was the founder of my country's drama movement and a pioneer in drama reform. He was called modern Guan Hanqing. He not only wrote dramas and operas, but also wrote movie scripts, poems and movie interludes. In people's minds, Tian Han is a famous dramatist and a famous poet. Tian Han was born in Changsha, Hunan Province. He was born on March 12, 1898 into a peasant family. Since the May 4th Movement, he has devoted himself to the anti-imperialist and anti-feudal New Culture Movement. The "Nanguo Society" he organized in the 1920s played an important role in the history of modern literature and art. At that time, more than a dozen dramas created by Tian Han, such as "Night in the Coffee Shop","Night of the Tiger", and "Death of a Famous Brand", were like exotic flowers blooming in the wasteland of drama in China at that time. In 1932, after Tian Han joined the Communist Party of China, he ushered in his second creative climax. He became one of the main forces in left-wing dramas and films. He not only created a large number of dramas, but also created movie scripts such as "Three Modern Women","Light of Motherhood", and "Children of the Wind". The opera "The Storm of the Yangtze River" he wrote, which reflects the struggling life of Shanghai dock workers, is one of the earliest revolutionary operas in my country. Tian Han also wrote a large number of inspiring lyrics with widespread social influence for many dramas and movie interludes, such as "March of the Volunteers" and "Graduation Song". Among them,"March of the Volunteers" composed by Nie Er moved millions of people. "Rise up, those who do not want to be slaves!" This song has been sung all over the motherland, from the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression to the War of Liberation, inspiring the Chinese people to fight endlessly for the motherland. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, this song was designated as the national anthem. After the liberation of the country, Tian Han continued to write in his busy leadership position. The "Guan Hanqing" he created expressed his praise for the ancient man who dared to speak up for Dou E. What he never expected was that he wrote "Xie Yaohuan" about quashing unjust imprisonment, but he was persecuted to death by Lin Biao and the "Gang of Four" and others. This unjust prison is even more tragic than Guan Hanqing's experience. In 1968, he disappeared after being tortured by endless criticism until he fell ill. He never bid farewell to his relatives, nor did he leave any last words, and even his ashes disappeared. At the ceremony for placing Tian Han's "ashes" held on April 20, 1979, his former friend Lin Mohan placed a hardcover drama script "Guan Hanqing", a record of "March of the Volunteers", a pair of glasses and a fountain pen. Put them in the urn. Tian Han was wronged for 10 years and was finally cleared. Tian Han has created a large number of works of various categories throughout his life. According to statistics from relevant parties, he has created more than 60 drama scripts, more than 20 opera scripts, more than 10 movie scripts, more than 900 old and new poems exist, and many excellent lyrics, prose, novels and literary works, translation works, etc. The "Collected Works of Tian Han"(not a complete collection) published later has as many as 16 volumes. Tian Han's achievements in my country's drama and poetry cannot be erased by anyone, and his name will always be engraved in the history of modern drama and poetry in China.
