On November 30, 1853, during the Crimean War, the Black Sea Fleet of the Imperial Russian Empire raided the Ottoman port of Sinop. Sinop, Turkey's port on the Black Sea, capital of Sinop Province, population 47000. It is located in the middle of the route from Istanbul to Batumi. It belonged to the Pavlagonia region in ancient times. It is a narrow peninsula protruding eastward, also known as Cape Sinop. On the south side of the peninsula is a semicircular natural bay embedded inland. The Boztepe Peninsula serves as a barrier in the northern part of the bay, and the winds from all directions are weakened, making it a rare natural harbor. Since ancient Greek times, Sinop has been used as a naval fortress, and there are six ancient fortresses distributed near the bay. Comment: Russia's Black Sea Fleet is still very powerful.
