On July 6, 2008 (June 4, 2008 in the lunar calendar), China's "Fujian Tulou" was officially included in the World Heritage List. The world's unique large-scale residential building-China's "Fujian Tulou" was officially included in the World Heritage List at the 32nd World Heritage Conference held in Quebec City, Canada on July 6, 2008. On the afternoon of July 6, 2008, the UNESCO World Heritage Committee began to review the candidates for World Cultural Heritage sites. At about 6:30 pm that day, the third China "Fujian Tulou" to be reviewed successfully passed the test. Fujian Tulou, distributed in the mountains in western and southern Fujian, is famous for its unique architectural style and long history and culture. Its shapes are round, square, oval, arc, etc. Fujian Tulou originated in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. After development in the early and mid Ming Dynasty, it gradually matured during the late Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty, and Republic of China, and has continued to this day. Fujian Tulou is a unique large-scale rammed earth residential building in mountainous areas in the world. It is a creative masterpiece of raw earth architecture. Fujian Tulou is located on the mountain and has a reasonable layout. It absorbs the "feng shui" concept of traditional China architectural planning and adapts to the requirements of living in a family. It cleverly uses the narrow plains in the mountains and local raw soil, wood, pebbles and other building materials. It is a self-contained type of raw soil high-rise building that is economical, strong, defensive, and extremely beautiful. Experts pointed out that the reason why China's "Fujian Tulou" was approved is that it is a historical witness of the Eastern blood and ethical relationship and the traditional culture of living together. It is a unique large-scale architectural art achievement in the world and has "universal and outstanding value". According to members of the China delegation from Fujian Province who came to the meeting,"Fujian Tulou" follows the Oriental philosophical concept of "harmony between man and nature", uses local materials, and selects the site according to the mountains or follows the streams. The architectural style is simple and rough, the form is beautiful and unique, the scale is appropriate, and the functions are complete and practical, complementing the green mountains, green waters, and pastoral scenery, forming a suitable living environment and a harmonious and unified landscape between man and nature. The World Heritage Conference is a regular meeting of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. It is held once a year. It mainly reviews which heritage sites can be included in the World Heritage List and supervises and guides the protection of the listed World Heritage sites.
