Enemy tanks captured during the Battle of Dingtao In early September 1946, the Shanxi-Hebei-Henan Field Army of the Communist Party of China smashed the Kuomintang army's "pincer offensive." In late August, the Kuomintang mobilized 22 brigades and attacked southwest Shandong in east and west routes from Zhengzhou, Henan to Xuzhou, Jiangsu, with the intention of attacking and eliminating the main force of the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army in the Heze area. Under the command of Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping, the Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan Field Army used part of its troops to block the enemy, and its main force was concentrated in the Dingtao area. From September 3 to 6, in the Dayang Lake and Dahuangji areas west of Dingtao, the 3rd Division of the Western Route Kuomintang Army, which had been lured into encirclement, was annihilated in batches and its division commander was captured. On the 7th, the People's Liberation Army continued its pursuit to the Dingtao and Kaocheng areas, annihilating two fleeing enemy brigades.
