On this day, 134 years ago, on August 16, 1891 (July 12, 1891 in the lunar calendar), Tanzanian national hero Mkwawa defeated the German colonial army. Mukwawa is a national hero of Tanzania. Together with his father Munigumba, he unified the hehe emirates and established a political power. On August 16, 1891, Mkwawa defeated the German colonial army. At that time, the German colonial army invaded eastern Africa and extended its aggressive forces to Tanzania. One day, Mkwawa received an ultimatum from German Commissioner Tselevsky to bring a bag of dirt to the meeting, which meant that he should surrender to the German invaders. However, Mukwawa immediately sent someone to send an arrow to show his determination to fight to the end. On August 16, 1891, Tselevsky led 1000 soldiers to attack the Hehe Kingdom. Mkwawa laid the team in advance. When the enemy entered the ambush circle, at an order, the soldiers immediately rushed out, used spears and bows to defeat the invading army, and eliminated more than 200 enemies. Three years later, the German army captured the royal city of Kalunga with heavy troops. Mkwawa turned into the forest and persisted in the struggle. In June 1898, German patrols broke into Mkwawa's hideout due to betrayal by traitors. At that time, Mkwawa was sick and had only a few followers with him. But he would rather die than be a prisoner and shot himself. The cruel enemy cut off Mukwawa's head and sent it back to Berlin to ask for credit. In 1954, the hero's head returned to the motherland and placed in the Mukwawa Memorial Hall. The Tanzanian people often went to pay homage to it with reverence.
