Xiong Daren, a pearl research expert and biology educator, is one of the founders of modern artificial pearl breeding in my country. He was born on March 17, 1910 in a scholarly family in Nanchang County, Jiangxi Province. In 1935, he graduated from the Department of Biology, School of Science, Fudan University, with a bachelor of science degree. Immediately, he stayed in Japan at his own expense and was recommended to enter the Research Laboratory of the Department of Zoology, Department of Science, Kyoto Imperial University (now Kyoto University), Japan without taking a test. Under the guidance of Professor Kami-Taku, Chairman of the Department of Zoology, he studied animal morphology, ecology and classification. In July 1937, due to the full-scale outbreak of the Japanese War of Aggression against China, he terminated his studies and returned to China with information on artificial pearl breeding and a set of tools for pearl insertion surgery. He was hired as a lecturer in the Department of Biology at Fudan University. In October 1937, Shanghai fell and was promoted to associate professor at Chongqing Union University. In 1941, he was hired as a professor in the Department of Biology at Guangdong Provincial College of Arts and Sciences (now South China Normal University). Later, he was appointed as professor and director of the Department of Natural History by the Teachers College of Sun Yat-sen University. In 1958, he served as director of the Department of Fisheries at Jinan University. In 1962, he served as professor and dean of Zhanjiang Fisheries College (now Guangdong Ocean University). Joined the China Democratic League in 1951. He has served as a member of the Aquatic Products Group of the State Science and Technology Commission; a member of the National Committee of China Association for Science and Technology; Director and Vice Chairman of China Aquatic Society, Director of Marine Aquaculture Professional Committee; Chairman of Guangdong Branch of China Zoological Society; Vice Chairman of Guangdong Branch of China Marine and Limnology Society. During the Cultural Revolution, he suffered persecution and destruction, so he translated "A Study on Pearl". In 1978, he attended the National Science Conference. Established the first pearl laboratory in my country's colleges and universities. On September 9, 1981, he died due to ineffective treatment of myocardial infarction at the age of 71. On the morning of November 25, 2005, Guangdong Ocean University held the unveiling ceremony of the bronze statue of Professor Xiong Daren in front of the main campus library.
