Keizo Obuchi was born on June 25, 1937 in Gunma Prefecture, central Honshu, Japan. He is 61 years old. He graduated from Waseda University with a master's degree. Since Obuchi joined the cabinet in 1979, he has served as Chief of the General Affairs Department, Minister of Development of Okinawa, and Chief Cabinet Secretary. He has served as Foreign Minister since September 1997. Obuchi has led delegations to visit China many times. Obuchi had one son and two daughters. He likes to play golf on weekdays and is an amateur radio enthusiast. He has a gentle temperament, is cautious when things happen, and has strong coordination skills. Therefore, his character is quite praised. On May 14, 2000, former Japanese Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi passed away due to illness at Tokyo's Juntendo Hospital at the age of 62.
