On this day, 63 years ago, on November 22, 1962 (October 26, 1962 in the lunar calendar), the Soviet Union built the world's longest underground water pipeline at that time. On November 22, 1962, the newly reclaimed border area of the Kazakh Republic of the Soviet Union began to build two of the world's longest underground water pipelines-the Ishmusk and Brayevsk water pipelines. Their total length reaches more than 3,500 kilometers. At that time, the newly reclaimed border areas were very short of water. The production water and drinking water used by many state farms and other production enterprises established here in those years often needed to be transported from long distances. After the completion of the Ishmsk and Brayevsk underground water pipelines, water flowing into the Ishm River in the Republic of Kazakhstan from the north will be transported to hundreds of state farms and many other enterprises here along these two water pipelines. When building the water pipeline, a series of water diversion equipment, water purification stations, pumping stations, transmission lines, substations and other projects will be built along the line. More than 400 water towers will also be built to supply water to 375 state farms, 62 grain purchasing stations and barns, twelve industrial enterprises and more than 100 other consumers.
