Breaking-News >> TodayHistory On August 11, 1912, Yuan Shikai secretly expanded the Beiyang Army
On this day, 113 years ago, on August 11, 1912 (June 29, 1912 in the lunar calendar), Yuan Shikai secretly expanded the Beiyang Army. In August 1912, Yuan Shikai secretly ordered Beiyang to "control all armies, recruit 100% of them, and no one is allowed to be missing." After the Revolution of 1911, the Beiyang armies were severely reduced. After Yuan Shikai became interim president, he "secretly wrote nine measures for the aftermath" and began to consolidate and replenish each army, while urging the southern provinces to disarm. While the Beiyang Army was expanding, Yuan Shikai ordered the Military Senate Office of the Presidential Palace to issue an order to junior and above officers in each town saying: "All officers in the north originated from the small station, so President Yuan is the parent of the Northern Army. Now our Northern Army has entered into three mutual agreements. Those who follow will sign their names and those who do not follow will use force to deal with them. First, President Yuan is the parent of all the armies in the north. No matter who opposes President Yuan, he will fight with all his strength; second, the President has full authority to govern the navy and army, and all our soldiers only know that there is a president and no other things; third, all our soldiers must absolutely obey the orders of the President."
