The 14th Olympic Games opened on July 29, 1948
On this day, 77 years ago, July 29, 1948 (June 23, 1948, the 14th Olympic Games opened. A British athlete lit the Olympic flame at the Wembley Stadium. London hosted the 4th Olympic Games in 1908. Forty years later, athletes from all over the world gathered here again to regain the Olympic style. This is the first Olympic Games held after a 12-year hiatus and a new starting point for the Olympic Movement. When 17-year-old American athlete Robert Masseur first encountered all-around events, there were only three weeks left before the United States Olympic trials. He passed the trials with good physical fitness and hard training, and defeated all opponents at the London Olympics, becoming the youngest decathlon champion in Olympic history. Four years later, he became the first person in Olympic history to hold this event in Helsinki. After retiring, Masseur joined politics and was elected as a member of Parliament. Hungarian shooter Takachi unfortunately lost his right hand in an accident and has since switched to his left hand. After three years of tenacious and arduous training, he finally won the world championship. At the London Olympics, he not only won the gold medal in rapid fire pistol, but also set a world record in this event. Four years later, he won the Olympic championship in this event again. Dutch player Cohen has an average record at the Berlin Olympics. After 12 years of hard training and expectation, she can finally show off in London. Although she is already a 30-year-old mother, she is confident and won four gold medals in the 100-meter, 200-meter, 4X100-meter and 80-meter hurdles, and is known as the "Dutch Flying Woman". In 1958, a woman took 10 hours and 49 minutes to swim from Katrin Island to Cape Vincennes, a total distance of 33.8 kilometers. After taking a short rest in the water, she swam back to Kataryn Island. The time was 15 hours and 36 minutes, compared with the shortest time for a man one way at that time, 13 hours and 25 minutes. Incredibly, the woman suffered from severe arthritis in 1952 and was able to walk on crutches for a year and a half. This world-renowned woman is Greta Anderson of Denmark, the gold medalist in the 100-meter freestyle and the silver medalist in the 4X100-meter freestyle relay at the 1948 London Olympics. She also successfully crossed the English Channel twice in 1957 and 1958. China sent 33 male athletes to participate in five events, but failed to place. Germany and Japan were disqualified because they were the birthplace of World War II. The successful hosting of the London Olympics made a great contribution to the development of the post-war Olympic Movement. The Indian team may still have fresh memories of Britain's rationing system. They brought their own eggs, one-armed striker Takaqi King George VI, to attend the opening ceremony of the 1948 London Olympics "Dutch flying lady" Blankels-Cohen 30-year-old Mrs. Blanks Cohen 17-year-old Bobo Mathias
