On this day, 73 years ago, June 14, 1952 (May 22, 1952, the first nuclear submarine was launched in the United States. On June 14, 1952, President Truman announced the completion of the world's first atomic-powered submarine and called it "the pioneer of future atomic-powered merchant ships and aircraft." The USS Nautilus nuclear-powered submarine was announced at the Naval Submarine Base in Glenton, Connecticut. Its propulsion system is being built at the Argena National Laboratory near Chicago. After its completion, the submarine can dive into the water almost indefinitely and has been cruising at speeds of 25-30 nautical miles per hour for a long time without adding fuel. Truman said the successful development from dense reactors to nuclear-powered submarines "had a revolutionary impact on the world's naval cause like the first ocean steam ship." The development of such a reactor is underway under the direction of Hyman Riekworth of the Naval Steamship Service. Overall construction of the Nautilus is expected to be completed by 1954, but the Navy has requested the construction of another nuclear submarine. Construction of a surface power station reactor is planned. News raw data sources → https://www.abtool.cn/today_detail/1mh9.html 17WorldNews[2025.09.27-14:13] 访问:77
