108 years ago today, November 7, 1917 (September 23, 1917, the October Socialist Revolution was won. During the October Revolution of 1917, the Workers 'Red Guards and the Revolutionary Army attacked the Winter Palace. At 5 p.m. on November 7, 1917, 20,000 Red Guards and revolutionary soldiers under the leadership of the Bolshevik Party, with the cooperation of 10 armored vehicles, surrounded the Winter Palace, the last stronghold of the Russian bourgeois provisional government. The enemy refused to surrender. At 9:45 p.m., the revolutionary soldiers on the "Avril" cruiser, which had successfully revolted, opened fire, and shells poured straight into the Winter Palace, and fierce fighting began. The day before, Lenin's Red Guards, revolutionary soldiers and sailors commandos had already occupied most of Petrograd's important strongholds-stations, telephone offices, post and telecommunications bureaus, power stations, political organs, banks and important bridges. Seeing that the situation was over, Kerensky had long disguised himself and sneaked away. However, before he left, he attempted to make a death struggle and recalled his troops from the front line, and ordered stubborn forces such as cadets, the "George Medal Soldier Battalion" and the "Women's Battalion" to gather in the Winter Palace for a battle against trapped animals. This was a decisive battle between revolutionary and counter-revolutionary forces. Amid the hail of bullets, the Red Guards and revolutionary soldiers rushed into the gate of the Winter Palace, fighting against the enemy floor by floor, room by room. The battle continued until 2 o'clock in the morning the next day. The garrison troops were wiped out, the 16 ministers hiding here were captured, and bright red flags were raised on the roof of the Winter Palace. Just as the fighting at the Winter Palace was fierce, on the night of November 7, the Second Congress of the All-Russian Soviet of Engineers 'Representatives opened at the Smolny Palace. The meeting adopted the "Letter to Workers, Soldiers, and Peasants" drafted by Lenin, formally declaring that the Russian bourgeois provisional government had been overthrown and that all power had been returned to the Soviet. The first socialist country under the dictatorship of the proletariat in human history was born. A new era began for the whole world. Attached is a brief introduction to the cruiser "Avril". At 21:45 pm on November 7, 1917 (October 25, Russian calendar), the cruiser "Avril" kicked off the Soviet Union's great October Revolution with the sound of its cannons bombarding the Winter Palace. The "Avril" was originally a cruiser of the Russian Baltic Fleet, with a length of 124 meters and a width of 16.8 meters. It has been in service since 1903. In 1905, it participated in the Battle of Malaysia between Japan and Russia. The victory of the February Revolution in 1917 inspired the sailors of the ship to join the revolutionary struggle. On November 6, 1917 (October 24, Russian calendar), all officers and soldiers on board carried out the orders of the Revolutionary Military Committee and drove the ship to the Nikolayev Bridge (now Lieutenant Schmitt Bridge). At 10 a.m. the next day, Lenin drafted the "Letter to Russian Citizens" in the name of the Revolutionary Military Committee, which was broadcast to the whole country on the "Avril". Subsequently, the ship bombarded the Winter Palace, where the Provisional Government was seat, announcing the beginning of the Great October Revolution. During the Soviet Patriotic War, when Fascist Germany attacked Leningrad, the ship's nine main guns were disassembled and deployed on the outskirts of the city to form the "Independent Special Artillery Company of the Baltic Fleet" to guard the ground. The 10th main gun, commander and artillery squad remained on board to fight. Later, at a critical moment, the cruiser "Avril" sank in the harbor. It was salvaged later in the war and repaired in 1944. Since November 1948, as a memorial of the October Revolution and a branch of the Central Military Museum, it has always been anchored on the bank of the Neva River in Leningrad for people to visit and admire. The ship was awarded the Red Flag Medal in 1927 and the October Revolution Medal in 1968.
