On July 10, 1975, the Qin Dynasty terracotta warriors were discovered in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province
On this day, 50 years ago, on July 10, 1975 (June 2, 1975 in the lunar calendar), the Terracotta Warriors of the Qin Dynasty were discovered in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province. On July 10, 1975, it was reported that a huge Qin Dynasty pottery terracotta pit was discovered on the east side of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang in Lintong County, Shaanxi Province. This pottery pit was discovered by local farmers during the drought fighting process. After exploration by archaeologists, it was confirmed to be No. 1 Terracotta Warriors Pit. The No. 1 Terracotta Warriors Pit has a total area of 12600 square meters, and about 6000 warrior figurines were unearthed, arranged to form a complete military formation scene. The warrior figurines and chariots and horses are arranged symmetrically at regular intervals, and the lineup is neat. The warrior figurines are 1.82 meters high, dressed in battle robes and armor, holding bows and arrows, or holding sharp practical weapons such as swords, spears, and crossbows in their left hands. Xiongjun's pottery horse is similar in size to a real horse. It is grouped into four horses to drag a chariot. These vigorous warriors and horses gathered in military formations reproduce the magnificent scene of Qin Shihuang galloping thousands of miles, fighting north and south, sweeping away the remnants of slave owners, and unifying China. According to on-site cleanup and documentary records, these pottery figurines were generally made during the lifetime of Qin Shihuang, dating back more than 2100 years. These sculpture treasures have bright and delicate artistic techniques, simple style, and a high artistic level. The pottery figurines and pottery horses are commensurate with the size of people and horses in real life, have appropriate proportions, and have accurate shapes. The detailed sculptures of the figurines and horses are extremely exquisite. The pottery figurines have various hairstyles, different faces, and a majestic posture. The Tao Ma's ears are tilted forward upright, and the two strands of hair in front of his forehead are slightly tilted upward. He heads up and cries, and his shape is lifelike. At the same time, the figurines and horse meat are very strong and lifelike. Such large-scale sculptures are rare in the world in terms of quantity, quality, or archaeological discoveries. In 1976, No. 2 and No. 3 pits were also discovered one after another. The Qin terracotta warriors pit No. 2 is located on the north side of the east end of the No. 1 pit, with a total area of about 6000 square meters, equivalent to half of the No. 1 pit. The military formation in Pit No. 2 is more special than Pit No. 1. It has many arms and diverse images. It is a large-scale military formation composed of tanks, infantry and cavalry. Pit No. 3 is located on the north side of the west end of Pit No. 1. It is much smaller than Pit No. 1. There is only one chariot, four horses, and dozens of pottery figurines. It is the headquarters of Pit No. 1 and Pit No. 2-the military curtain. The excavation of Qin Shihuang's Terracotta Warriors is one of the major discoveries in my country's archaeological undertaking and is known as the "Eighth Wonder of the World". In 1979, a museum-the Qin Terracotta Warriors Museum-was built on the No. 1 pit. It is today the largest ancient military site museum in the world.
