107 years ago today, on July 14, 1918 (June 7, 1918 in the lunar calendar), the famous Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman was born. Ingmar Bergman (July 14, 1918-July 30, 2007) was a Swedish film, theater, and opera director. Born into a family of Lutheran missionaries, he is best known for his works including "het Sjundeinseglet"(1957) and "Smultronst?" llet, 1957). From his exploration of the human condition, Bergman discovered melancholy and despair, as well as comedy and hope. In addition to directing, Bergman also writes scripts for most of his films. He is known as one of the greatest and most influential directors in modern film. He has directed 62 films, most of which have written his own writing and directed more than 170 plays. Internationally renowned actors he likes to work with include Liv Umman and Max von Sydow. Most of his films are set in his hometown of Sweden, with mostly cold themes, dealing with pain and madness. Bergman was active for more than 60 years, but his career suffered a severe setback in 1976 when he was accused of evading income taxes. After a botched criminal investigation, he terminated a series of unfinished productions, closed his studio, and self-imposed exile in Germany for eight years.
