German philosopher Heidegger passed away on May 26, 1976
Forty-nine years ago today, on May 26, 1976 (April 28, 1976 in the lunar calendar), the German philosopher Heidegger passed away. Martin Heidegger was one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century who was well-known in Europe. He died 23 years ago today in the town of Meskeqi, West Germany, where he was born. He was 86. Heidegger was born on September 26, 1889. He studied philosophy at the University of Freiburg. His mentor was Edmund Husserl, the founder of the Phenomenological School. He taught in Marburg in 1923 and was awarded the position of chief professor among many colleagues, including the theologian Paul Tillich. In 1928 he returned to the University of Freiburg to succeed Husserl. He was appointed principal in 1933, just as the Nazis rose, but resigned a year later. He had a brief connection with the Nazis, but then parted ways, which affected his reputation for the rest of his life, in part because he refused to explain it. Although he denied the title granted to him, Heidegger's thoughts on the "question of survival" began the existentialist movement, and his book "Survival and Times" greatly influenced Jean-Rowe Sutter.
