107 years ago today, on November 12th, 1918 (October 9th, 1918 in the lunar calendar), Austria became a republic. The Austro-Hungarian Empire was a dual monarchy established through the Austro-Hungarian Entente on the basis of the Austrian Empire. It was the last feudal monarchy under the rule of the Habsburg family. It was formally established in 1867 and dissolved in 1918. From the 15th to the 20th century, the Habsburg Dynasty was one of the important dynasties in Europe. The Habsburgs ruled Hungary and Bosnia from 1526, maintaining control over them until 1918. In June, 1914, Crown Prince Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary commanded a military exercise showing off force in Bosnia, taking Serbia and Montenegro as imaginary enemies, which intensified the national sentiment of Serbs. On the 28th, he was killed by Serbian patriots in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia, and the German-Austrian group used this as an excuse to provoke the First World War. In 1918, the German-Austrian group was defeated, the workers' movement and national liberation movement within the Austro-Hungarian Empire rose, and revolutions broke out in Videna and Budapest at the same time. On November 1, Emperor Charles I was forced to abdicate and the Austro-Hungarian Empire disintegrated. According to the Peace Treaty of Saint-Germain and the Peace Treaty of Trianon, three countries, Austria, Hungary and Czechoslovakia, were established in the post-war imperial territory, and some territories were returned to Poland, Yugoslavia, Romania and Italy respectively. On November 12, 1918, Austria became a republic, and the rule of the Habsburg Dynasty ended.
