125 years ago today, July 23, 1900 (June 27, 1900 in the lunar calendar), the first Pan-African Conference was held. Pan-Africanism originated at the end of the 19th century. It is the product of the anti-colonial struggle of the African people and the struggle of black Americans against slavery and white racism. Black Americans Worster and Dr. Bliden first proposed the idea that black Americans and African people share a common destiny. Martin Delany, a black man in the West Indies, proposed "Africa for Africans." 1897 Trinidad lawyer Henry Sylvester Williams founded the African Society. At the beginning of the 20th century, the theory of pan-Africanism was combined with the practice of black struggle to form an organized pan-Africanism movement. On July 23, 1900, at the initiative of Henry Williams, 57 representatives from the United States, the West Indies and Africa held the first Pan-African Conference in London. The meeting discussed the situation of black people around the world, advocated that black people enjoy the same rights as white people, and criticized the racial discrimination policies of the South African Boers. It was decided to change the "African Association" to the "Pan-African Association", with Voster as chairman and Henry Williams as general secretary. He founded the monthly magazine "Pan African" with the slogan of "Freedom and Light" to promote Pan-Africanism. After World War I, under the active promotion of black American scholar Wei Dubois, the Pan-Africanism movement became increasingly active. From 1919 to 1927, four Pan-African Conferences were held in Paris, London, Lisbon, New York and other places. After World War II, the Pan-Africanism Movement closely integrated with the African National Liberation Movement and developed into a mass political movement in Africa. The 5th Pan-African Conference was held in Manchester in October 1945. More than 200 representatives were mainly from Africa. The 6th Pan-African Conference was held in Dar es Salaam in 1974. The General Assembly resolved to designate May 25 as "Pan-African Day". The Pan-Africanism Movement has made contributions to arousing national self-determination, promoting the African national liberation movement, and promoting unity and unity.
