It is held every four years. Its main content is academic exchanges and awarding the Fields Medal. As a historical tradition, each conference invites mathematicians who have made outstanding achievements in the past four years to introduce important developments in various directions in related fields. The 45-minute report of the International Congress of Mathematicians is determined by a program committee composed of a number of world-renowned mathematicians designated by the International Mathematical Union based on the major achievements and progress in international cutting-edge work in mathematical science in the past four years. Being invited to serve as the 45-minute guest speaker of the conference is usually regarded as a high honor for a mathematician, which means that his research work has been internationally recognized.
