Thirty years ago today, on October 28, 1995 (September 5, 1995 in the lunar calendar), Cochran walked a tight wire across the Kimen Sky Chasm to set a Guinness Record. On the morning of October 28, 1995, Canadian Jay Cochran relied on a 50-pound balance pole to walk from the north bank of the Yangtze River to the south bank on a steel rope from a height of about 400 meters, crossing the Qutang Gorge Kimen Sky Moat, creating a new Guinness World Record. About 20,000 people witnessed this human feat at the scene. At 11 a.m., Cochran set out from Eagle Mouth on the north bank of Kimen, 375 meters above the river. Holding an aluminum balance pole about 10 meters long, he slowly walked towards the south bank without any protective facilities. He did not stop on the way, and waved to the audience halfway through. Kimen is known to the world as the world is famous. There is Chijia Mountain in the north and Baiyan Mountain in the south. The two mountains face each other, the gorges are steep, and the river is turbulent, making it very dangerous. Performing a tightrope walking between the high gorges and natural dangers is more "thrilling, magical and difficult". After 52 minutes, Cochran finally walked 628 meters on the steel wire and stepped on the lion bag 405 meters above the river on the south bank. The diameter of the steel wire rope is less than 3 centimeters. Due to the low terrain in the north and high in the south, the steel wire is inclined at a 15-degree angle. He has been walking the tightrope for 38 years. He once set a record of living on a high-altitude steel wire for 21 days with the help of a balance bar. Cochran said: "Walking the tightrope on the Three Gorges is the most exciting challenge I have ever had!" He planned to put a wire rope over the famous Niagara Falls in 1996.
