On this day, 29 years ago, on December 3, 1996 (October 23, 1996 in the lunar calendar), Japan's top wanted criminal Lin Tae-nan was arrested. Lin Tainan (masked man) was taken back to Tokyo On December 3, 1996, Japanese police arrested Lin Tainan, who was among the most wanted criminals in Japan and was known as the "killer", on Ishigaki Island, at the western tip of the Okinawa Islands. Lin Tainan is a backbone member of Japan's Aum Shinrikyo cult. On March 20, 1995, he and other members of the "Om" used sarin gas on a Tokyo subway train, killing more than 10 people and poisoning more than 5500 people. In May 1995, after the police captured Aum Shinrikyo leader Asahara and destroyed the "Aum" nest, Lin Tae-nan and other "Aum" culprits had fled in all directions. For a year and a half, police have been hunting for members of the "Aum" across the country. Lin Tain-nan's arrest will provide important clues for the trial of the leader of Aum Shinrikyo and the pursuit of other wanted criminals.
