132 years ago today, on June 10, 1893 (April 26, 1893 in the lunar calendar), Qing Zhu, a famous music theorist in China, was born. Liao Shangguo (1893--1959), also known as Qingzhu, was a Chinese music theorist, a native of Fucheng, Huiyang County, Guangdong Province (now Qiaoxi, Huicheng District). He once used the pen name Li Qingzhu, and his other names were Li Qing and L.T. Born in Huizhou, Guangdong Province on June 10, 1893, he died in Shanghai in 1959. Before the Revolution of 1911, he was a student of Huangpu Army Primary School in Guangdong Province. During the Wuchang Uprising, he participated in the armed action against Chaozhou Prefecture. After the founding of the Republic of China, in 1912, he was sent by Guangdong government to study in Germany as a hero, entered the Law Department of Berlin University, and studied piano and composition theory at the same time. In 1920, he received his J.D. Returned in 1922. He successively served as magistrate of the Dali Yuan (i.e. the Supreme Court) of the Guangdong Generalissimo Mansion, secretary of the General Office of the President of the Whampoa Military Academy, secretary of the General Political Department of the National Revolutionary Army (during the Northern Expedition), vice chairman of the School Affairs Committee of the Guangdong Judges' School, and the Fourth Army of the National Revolutionary Army Director of the Political Department and other positions. After the failure of the Guangzhou Uprising in December, 1927, he was wanted by the Kuomintang government, changed his name to "Qingzhu" and started his life as a "desperate music scene". In 1928, he ran a bookstore in Shanghai, which mainly published music scores, and published his works "The Great River Goes East" and "Qing Songs Collection". Soon, the bookstore closed down. In 1929, at the invitation of Xiao Youmei, he was appointed as a professor at Shanghai National College of Music, and served as the editor-in-chief of the school magazines "Yin" and "Music Art" quarterly. He has published more than 60 translations and works in Le Yi. He also compiled and published two works on music aesthetics, Le Hua (1930, Commercial Press) and General Theory of Music (1933, Commercial Press), as well as a collection of songs, Yin Jing (1931, Commercial Press), which he collaborated with Huali Si. After 1934, he basically broke away from the music industry and died as a teacher. He once taught at Tongji University. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, he taught German at Fudan University and Nanjing University. Has translated the musical treatises of Mayal and Lisa. Liao Shangguo's songwriting is not only influenced by F. Schubert, but also influenced by H. Wolff. While taking care of the natural flatness of the pronunciation, pay special attention to the weight of the meaning of the word, and consider the melody according to the principle of recitation. For this reason, he wrote the article "Composing and Filling Music", expounding his views and embodying them in his own creation. For example, at the beginning of "The Great River Goes East", it has the momentum of predecessors praising Su Dongpo for saying that "the wind, the sea and the rain are forcing people". It is basically a recitation style, but it does not lose its melody beauty; In the middle section, after "reminiscing of Gong Jin's past", he chanted and sighed for a long time, heroic and romantic; At the end, "Life is like a dream" seems to be depressed, but "* is still shining on the river" still gives people the feeling of being healthy. The song "I Live at the Head of the Yangtze River" expresses the lover's firm belief and lofty sentiment with a smooth and beautiful folk song. It is a lyrical song with far-reaching artistic conception. Liao Shangguo's musical thought was deeply influenced by H. Barr, a western European "expressionist" theorist, and idealistic philosophy in 1819th century. He expounded his views of "music is the language of the upper boundary" and "music has no borders" in monographs such as Music Talk and General Theory of Music, an open letter to ordinary music friends in China, "I will also talk about the so-called national music problem" and the art of music as a service. In addition, he also introduced famous musicians such as W. A. Mozart, L. van Beethoven, R. Schumann, F. Chopin, R. Wagner, etc. His musical thoughts had a certain influence among some professional musicians at that time.
