On November 3, 1935, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish the Northwest Revolutionary Military Commission and the Northwest Revolutionary Military Commission's Rear Office. Mao Zedong, Peng Dehuai, Zhou Enlai, Wang Jiaxiang, Nie Hongjun, Lin Biao, Xu Haidong, Cheng Zihua, and Guo Hongtao were appointed members of the Northwest Revolutionary Military Commission, with Mao Zedong as chairman and Zhou Enlai and Peng Dehuai as vice chairmen; at the same time, it was decided to restore the title of the First Front Army of the Workers and Peasants Red Army of China, and appointed Peng Dehuai as commander and Mao Zedong as political commissar. The former First and Third Red Army Corps were jointly organized into the First Army Corps, and Lin Biao was appointed commander, Nie Rongzhen was appointed political commissar, Ye Jianying was chief of staff, and Wang Jiaxiang was director of the Political Department.
