August 14, 2007 (Lunar July 2, 2007), Iraq's worst bomb attack occurred. On August 14, 2007, four suicide bomb attacks on oil trucks occurred in Ninawa Province in northern Iraq, killing at least 400 people and injuring more than 300 others. The four oil trucks exploded one after another in the three districts of Khatania, Jazera and Taouzai near the town of Sinjai. The town is located 120 kilometers southwest of Mosul, the provincial capital, and adjacent to the Syria border. This was the deadliest attack since the outbreak of the Iraq war. The main residents of these areas belong to the Yazidi faction, an ancient Kurdish sect, so police believed the attacks were clearly targeted.
