Tang Dynasty Suzong Li Heng passed away

July 15, 761

Li Heng, Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty, was the ninth emperor of the Tang Dynasty. His original name was Li Yu, and he was the third son of Li Longji, Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. After the mutiny in Majiayi, Xuanzong fled west and reigned for five years (756 - 762). He was in office for five years at the age of 50. He died in a court coup. During his rule, the central government of Li Tang gradually disintegrated, which was the beginning of the decline of the Tang Dynasty.

Tang Suzong (September 3, 711 AD to 762 AD). His name is Li Heng, Han nationality, the third son of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty. After the Mutiny in Majiayi, Xuanzong fled west. He succeeded to the throne and was initially named Sisheng, but later changed his name many times. He was named Heng in 744 in the third year of Tianbao, but it has not been changed since then. He was the first emperor in the Tang Dynasty to ascend the throne outside the capital and then enter Chang 'an. He reigned for five years (756 - 762) and died of panic in a court coup. He was 50 years old and was buried in Jianling (Wujiang Mountain, 18 miles northeast of Liquan County, Shaanxi Province).

The day he ascended the throne was after the Anshi rebels captured the two capitals; and when his life came to an end and died of illness in Chang 'an, the Anshi Rebellion had not yet been settled.

He welcomed back his father Xuanzong, who had fled from chaos, and then said goodbye to the world of people with Xuanzong in 13 days, leaving an indelible influence and an intriguing scene on the rise and fall of the Tang Empire.

On July 12, 756 AD, Li Heng ascended the throne in Lingwu, known as Suzong in history. Yao respected Xuanzong as Taishang Emperor and changed the year title to "Zhi De." After Suzong ascended the throne, he attempted to recover the two capitals (Chang 'an in the west capital and Luoyang in the east). Prime Minister Fang Guan requested to lead troops to recover Chang' an. Suzong usually placed Fang Guan in an important position and agreed to his request. As a result, the housing management team encountered rebels in Chen Tao and was completely annihilated.

In the first month of the second year of Zhide (757), the Anshi rebels fought among themselves, and An Lushan was killed by his son An Qingxu. Suzong appointed famous generals Guo Ziyi and Li Guangbi to borrow Huihe troops to take the opportunity to counterattack. Chang 'an, the Western Capital, and Luoyang, the Tokyo, were recovered in June and October of the second year of Zhide (757 AD). Suzong once agreed with the Huihe soldiers: "On the day when the city is conquered, the land, scholars and civilians will return to the Tang Dynasty, and the gold, silk, and children will all return to the Huihe River. "This caused great damage to Luoyang. In September of the first year of Qianyuan (758 AD), Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty ordered Guo Ziyi to attack Xiangzhou with 600,000 troops from nine Jiedushi including Hedong Jiedushi Li Guangbi and other Jiedushi. Among the nine Jiedushi who participated in the war, Guo Ziyi and Li Guangbi had the most military exploits and the highest prestige. Suzong was unwilling to hand over military power to them, so he did not have a commander in chief and only appointed eunuch Yu Chaoen as the "envoy to observe the military appearance and publicize comfort" to command the army and take charge of the overall situation. Shi Siming, the general of An Lushan, led 130,000 troops to rescue Anqingxu. In March of the second year of Qianyuan (759 AD), a fierce battle broke out with the Tang army. Yu Chaoen did not understand the art of war or use of troops, which resulted in a defeat of the Tang army. Yu Chaoen blamed the defeat of Xiangzhou on Guo Ziyi. Suzong did not know what was right and wrong and dismissed Guo Ziyi from military power. At this time, the Anshi rebels broke out again in civil strife. Shi Siming killed An Qingxu and claimed to be Emperor of Great Yan. In May of the same year, he captured Luoyang from Li Guangbi. Shortly after Shi Siming occupied Luoyang, he was killed by his son Shi Chaoyi.

In the court, after Yu Chaoen, Suzong began to trust eunuchs Li Fuguo and Cheng Yuanzhen to manipulate military and political power, and the eunuchs 'power became increasingly arrogant. At the same time, Suzong also trusted Empress Zhang Liangdi and condoned her interference in political affairs. Empress Zhang and Li Fuguo initially formed into one party. Later, Empress Zhang hated Li Fuguo's autocracy and wanted to make Li Xi, King of Yue, the heir. Empress Zhang and Li Xi began to oppose Li Fuguo and Cheng Yuanzhen.

In mid-April of 761 AD, Suzong fell ill and was unable to attend court for several months. (July 15, 762) In April, Xuanzong died of illness. His grief continued and his condition worsened. Empress Zhang summoned the Crown Prince, and the Empress said,"Li Fuguo has been in charge of the forbidden army for a long time and has too much power. The only thing he fears in his heart is you and me. Now that Your Majesty is critically ill, he is colluding with Cheng Yuanzhen and others to plot and cause trouble. He must kill them immediately. "The Prince said with tears: " My father is in a serious condition. It is not appropriate to report this to him. If we kill Li Fuguo ourselves, my father will be shocked. It will be bad for his noble body. I think we should postpone this matter and talk about it." "Empress Zhang sent off the crown prince and immediately summoned Suzong's second son, Li Xi, King of Yue, to the inner palace for discussion. Li Xi immediately ordered eunuch Duan Hengjun to select more than 200 strong people from among the eunuchs, distribute weapons, and prepare to take action. Someone in the Imperial Prison reported the situation to Li Fuguo. Li Fuguo and Cheng Yuanzhen took their accomplices to Lingxiao Gate to inquire about the news. Just when the prince was about to enter the palace to visit his father. Li Fuguo lied that there was a change in the palace and prevented the prince from entering the palace, and ordered his followers to take the prince into the Flying Dragon Hall for surveillance. Li Fuguo pretended the prince's order and encouraged the forbidden soldiers to enter the palace to capture Li Xi, Duan Hengjun and others and put them in prison. Hearing the change, Queen Zhang hurriedly fled into Suzong's bedroom to escape. Li Fuguo led troops to chase into the bedroom and forced Empress Zhang to leave the palace. Empress Zhang refused to obey and begged Suzong for help. Suzong was scared by this and couldn't speak for a moment. Li Fuguo took the opportunity to drag Queen Zhang out of the palace. Suzong's condition suddenly became serious due to shock, and no one asked, so he died in Changsheng Hall that day.

Comments: This emperor is too cowardly.
