From 1930 to 1936, he starred with Nguyen Lingyu in "Wild Grass and Flowers","A Cut of Plum","The Road","Langtao Sand","Go to Nature","Golden Age","Top Gun", etc., winning the audience with his fresh and simple performance style and being praised as the "movie emperor". During the Anti-Japanese War, he starred in films such as "Thousands of Miles in the Sky". After the founding of New China, he participated in the filming of films such as "Heavy Light of the Earth","The Great Starting Point","Mother","Eagle in the Storm", etc. He served as vice chairman of the Shanghai Film Association, representative of the first to fifth National People's Congress of Shanghai City, and member of the first and fifth Standing Committee of the Shanghai CPPCC.
