The South China Uprising of August 1, 1927.
98 years ago today, on August 1, 1927 (July 4, 1927 in the lunar calendar), the "August 1st" Nanchang Uprising took place. The Nanchang Uprising is from left to right: Zhou Enlai, Ye Ting, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng In 1927, the first civil revolutionary war failed due to the mutiny of Chiang Kai-shek and Wang Jingwei. In order to save the revolution, the Communist Party of China sent Li Lisan and other comrades to Jiujiang to prepare to organize the forces of the Chinese Communist Party in the Northern Expeditionary Army, unite with Zhang Fakui, commander of the 12th Division of the National Revolutionary Army, to return to Guangzhou, launch peasant riots, and establish a new revolutionary base area. But at that time, Zhang Fakui had already implemented the policy of "clearing the Communist Party", which made the original plan fail. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China then decided to take independent military action, concentrate its armed forces, and carry out the Nanchang riots, and sent Zhou Enlai, a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee, to Nanchang to form a former enemy committee to lead the riots. On July 27th, Zhou Enlai arrived in Nanchang and held a meeting at Jiangxi Hotel to announce the formal establishment of the former enemy committee. Zhou Enlai is the secretary of the committee, and Tan Pingshan, Li Lisan, Hui Daiying and Peng Pai are members. The meeting decided that He Long was appointed as the commander-in-chief of the uprising, Ye Ting was appointed as the commander-in-chief of the former enemy, and Liu Bocheng was appointed as the chief of staff. The uprising time was scheduled for the evening of July 30th. Due to Zhang Guoshou's obstruction, the uprising time was postponed to 4 a.m. on August 1st. However, due to the leakage of the uprising time, the former enemy committee decided to advance the uprising to 2 a.m. on August 1st. At that time, there were only more than 10,000 Kuomintang armed forces in Nanchang, while the armed forces controlled and influenced by the Communist Party included the National Revolutionary Army led by He Long, Ye Ting and Zhu De, with a total of about 20,000 people. At 2 o'clock in the morning on August 1st, He Long, Ye Ting, Zhu De, Liu Bocheng and others led their troops to hold an uprising. After more than four hours of fierce fighting, more than 10,000 enemies were wiped out. In this way, almost all the enemies in Nanchang were wiped out, and the uprising troops occupied Nanchang City. At 9: 00 on August 1st, a joint meeting attended by more than 40 uprising leaders and representatives of overseas Chinese from various provinces, cities and overseas Chinese was held in Nanchang City. Twenty-five people, including Soong Ching Ling, He Xiangning and Deng Yanda, were elected to form the Chinese Kuomintang Revolutionary Committee, with Tan Pingshan as the chairman. The uprising troops still use the designation of the Second Front Army of the National Revolutionary Army, with He Long as the acting commander-in-chief, Ye Ting as the acting former enemy commander-in-chief, and Liu Bocheng as the chief of staff. After the Nanchang Uprising, Wang Jingwei ordered Zhang Fakui and Zhu Peide to attack Nanchang, and the pre-uprising committee advanced southward as originally planned. From August 3 to 5, the uprising troops withdrew from Nanchang successively. However, the uprising did not pay attention to the combination with the local peasant movement. By late September, the uprising troops were besieged by powerful enemies in Chaoshan area of Guangzhou, and the uprising failed. Some of the retained uprising troops, led by Zhu De and Chen Yi, moved to southern Hunan, and the other part moved to Hailufeng area to continue the struggle. The Nanchang Uprising fired the first shot of armed resistance against the Kuomintang reactionaries, marking the beginning of the Communist Party of China (CPC) 's independent leadership of the revolutionary war and the establishment of the revolutionary army. August 1st was designated by the Communist Party of China as the Army Day of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
