On September 28, 1992, Italian Interior Minister Mancino announced at a press conference in Rome that the world's largest drug trafficking gang had been cracked.

Mancino said that the joint operation, code-named "Green Ice"(meaning frozen US dollars), began nine months ago. Police from Italy, the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain and Canada participated in the operation. After careful tracking and reconnaissance, they finally worked together and captured 201 criminals in one fell swoop, including 35 in Italy.

At a press conference, Italian Police Commissioner Parisi introduced that this is the world's largest international drug trafficking gang uncovered so far. The operation was also a heavy blow to drug gangs such as the Italian Mafia, Ndragetta and Camora.
