On this day, 26 years ago, on June 13, 1999 (April 30, 1999 in the lunar calendar), the Ministry of Education launched the Public English Level Examination System (PETS). On June 13, 1999, the Examination Center of the Ministry of Education held a press conference to officially introduce the PETS examination system to the public. In September of the same year, the PETS1 - 4 examinations were held in 10 provinces and cities including Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Shandong, Henan, and Guangdong. In 2000, the exam was expanded to 15 provinces and cities, with nearly 100000 examiners. Since September 1999, relevant units have officially replaced the previous WSKEPT exam with the PETS-5 exam. my country's education testing center is using the standards of PETS2 and PETS4 to transform the English test in the college entrance examination and postgraduate examination. There are plans to replace the English Level 1 test for self-examination in public and foreign schools with the PETS2 test.
