On this day, 104 years ago, on June 3, 1921 (April 27, 1921, the lunar calendar), Li Dazhao, Ma Xulun and other teachers and students were beaten for their petition. On June 3, 1921, faculty members of Peking University and other eight national universities went to the Presidential Palace with their students to see President Xu Shichang due to a long-term lack of education funds. Several professors such as Li Dazhao and Ma Xulun came to the forefront of the team. The team arrived at Xinhuamen and encountered and clashed with the guards sent by Xu Shichang. Professor Li Dazhao and dozens of teachers and students were severely beaten by the guards, and Professor Ma Xulun was injured in the head and waist, resulting in the "June 3rd" tragedy. This incident aroused strong indignation among teachers and students in various schools in Beijing and all walks of life, and the domestic and foreign education circles have called in support. Sun Yat-sen called the faculty and staff of No. 8 schools and invited them and the Beijing education community to go south to Guangdong to run schools.
