The Battle of Vienna begins

On July 14, 1683, the Battle of Vienna began, and the Ottoman Turkish prime minister Mustafa led an army of 175000 people to besiege Vienna. The Holy Roman Emperor Leopold I had fled Vienna. There were only fewer than 13000 garrison troops led by Count Stahlemberg. In addition, there were more than 5000 citizens, students and slaves in the city. They were underarmed and ill-equipped. The garrison in the city lasted until September, when King Sobieski of Poland led his army to assist, defeating the Turkish army.

The large-scale war was won by Polish-Austrian-German troops led by King John III of Poland, who defeated the Ottoman army led by Vizirkala Mustafa Basha.

The Ottoman army began to siege Vienna on July 14, 1683, with an army of approximately 138,000 people (although most of them did not participate in the battle, and only 50,000 soldiers with combat experience, the rest were support soldiers). The decisive battle took place on September 12, when 70,000 Holy Alliance reinforcements arrived to confront the Ottoman army.

The coalition consists of the following troops:

John III's 30,000 Polish troops (the Lithuania did not take part in the battle) 18,500 Austrian troops led by Charles V, 19,000 Franconian, Swabian and Bavarian troops led by Prince George III, 9,000 Saxon troops, and John III, King of the Lithuania Union, was the commander of this coalition.

The battle was a turning point in a 300-year struggle between multiple kingdoms in Central Europe and the Ottoman Empire. In the 16 years after the battle, the Habsburgs of Austria gradually regained southern Hungary and Transylvania from the Ottoman Empire, eliminating a large number of Ottoman troops. In 1699, the two countries signed a peace treaty, ending the expansion of the Ottoman Empire into Europe.

Comments: 10 times the enemy, but unable to win, really... A major failure of the Ottoman Empire
