On this day, 38 years ago, May 26, 1987 (April 29, 1987, the National Party Consolidation Work Summary Meeting was held. A report published in the People's Daily On May 26, 1987, the Steering Committee for the Party Consolidation Work of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China was held in Beijing. At this meeting, Executive Deputy Director Bo Yibo delivered a report entitled "Basic Summary on Party Consolidation and Further Strengthening Party Building" on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Announced that the three-and-a-half-year national party consolidation work has basically ended. He pointed out that the achievements of this party consolidation are: Generally speaking, the whole party has made progress in the four aspects of ideology, style, discipline, and organization compared with before the party consolidation. The situation in the party is seriously impure in ideology, style, and organization has changed, and some important experience has been accumulated in correctly handling intra-party contradictions and problems. However, the development of party consolidation work has been uneven. Some units have not fully completed the four basic tasks of party consolidation, and some have even gone through the motions, which has affected and damaged the reputation of party consolidation work among the masses. Units that have done relatively well in party consolidation also have some problems left behind in party style and other aspects, which need to continue to be solved in regular party building in the future. He called for continuing to push party building forward on the basis of party consolidation, and put forward five suggestions to further strengthen construction in the new era: (1) Adhere to the principle that the party must govern the party and effectively separate party and government. (2) Strengthen the party's ideological and theoretical construction and strive to improve the political quality of party members. (3) Pay close attention to the construction of the party's work style and strengthen the relationship between the party and the masses. (4) Adapt to the needs of new situations and new tasks, and continuously strengthen the construction of leadership groups at all levels. (5) Improve the party's organizational and institutional construction and further enhance the party's combat effectiveness. Yu Qiuli, deputy director of the CPC Central Committee and deputy secretary-general of the Central Military Commission, and Wang Heshou, deputy director of the CPC Central Committee and second secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made speeches at the meeting on the issue of military party consolidation and the building of the ruling party. The meeting emphasized that after the party consolidation is over, party organizations at all levels must always focus on adhering to the four basic principles and adhering to the two basic points of reform, opening up, and revitalization, carry out various party building work, and strive to push party building forward.
