November 10, 1759 The birth of German playwright Schiller
266 years ago today, November 10, 1759 (September 21, 1759 in the lunar calendar), the German playwright Schiller was born. German playwright Schiller's "The Bandits" was a highly influential play in Germany at the end of the 18th century. When it was first staged in Manheim in 1782, it immediately aroused a strong reaction from society. The protagonist of the play, Carl Moore, was a pure young man who loved to read Rousseau's articles. Forced by the decadent social environment, he joined the ranks of bandits, killed the rich and helped the poor, and launched a comprehensive attack on the feudal society, unreasonable laws and hypocritical religions at that time. He publicly declared his lofty ideals; "Germany will become a republic, and Rome and Sparta will be nothing more than nunneries." At that time, Germany was not a unified country, but divided into 300 feudal states. The rulers of these small states arbitrarily and brutally oppressed the people. Therefore, when the script "Bandits" was staged, it was like a fire on dry firewood. It ignited the people's passion to resist tyranny and caused a sensation in the whole society. Schiller, the author of "The Bandits", is an outstanding German poet and dramatist. Born in Malbach, the Duchy of Württemberg on November 10, 1759, her father was a surgeon and later served as a junior officer in the army of Duke Ka Euigen. Her mother was the daughter of a baker. In 1768, Schiller entered Latin school and prepared to enter a seminary in the future according to his hobbies and the wishes of his parents. However, when Schiller graduated in 1773, Duke Eigan forced him to enter the Military Academy. The Military Academy was an institution where the Duke trained slaves. It had no freedom. Schiller was imprisoned here for eight years. During this period, he came into contact with the works of Shakespeare, Rousseau, and Goethe, and began to secretly write the play "The Bandit". After graduating from the Military Academy, he worked as a military doctor in Stuttgart, the capital of the Principality, and continued to write "The Bandits". "The Bandits" was published in 1781 and staged in 1782. For this, Schiller was imprisoned by Duke Eigan for two weeks. He couldn't bear the Duke's oppression. He fled Stuttgart in 1782. From then on, Schiller began his literary career. In 1784, his outstanding work "Conspiracy and Love" was published, and in 1785, his famous poem "Ode to Joy" was published. In 1794, he and Goethe formed a close friendship and worked together to promote the literary movement in Germany. Under the patronage of Goethe, he spent seven years completing the masterpiece "Wallenstein" trilogy. Later, he wrote two patriotic plays,"The Girl of Orion" and "William Tell". In 1805, Schiller died of poverty and illness. Schiller's play "Wallenstein" illustrates Schiller's former residence.
