September 7, 1298 Marco Polo and Ruth Tiqian co-authored "The Journey of Marco Polo"
On this day, 727 years ago, on September 7, 1298 (August 1, 1298, the lunar calendar), Marco Polo and Ruth Tiqian co-authored "Marco Polo's Acts". In the 1370s, after Kublai Khan proclaimed himself emperor, he received the Venetian merchant Nikolai Polo, his brother Mafei Polo, and his son Marco Polo, who came to worship, and left them to serve the court. Marco Polo quickly learned Chinese and Mongolian, inspected many places, and is said to have served as a local official in Yangzhou. He often sent foreign missions and visited many places in Nanyang. After staying in China for 17 years, brothers Nikolai and Marco Polo left and trudged back to Venice for another three years. Soon after, Marco Polo joined the Venetian Fleet and was defeated and captured in the war with Genoa. He was thrown into Genoa prison on September 7, 1298. After Marco Polo was imprisoned, he was imprisoned with the writer Ruth Tiqian. The two collaborated to write "The Journey of Marco Polo"(a book called "A Record of Experiences in the Orient". The book gives a detailed introduction to famous cities in China such as Dadu, Yangzhou, Suzhou, Hangzhou, etc., praising China's richness and civilization.
