Saint Olav II Hararsson, King of Norway, died

Olaf II died in battle
On July 29, 1030, Saint Olav II Hararsson, King of Norway, passed away.
In his youth, Olaf II was the leader of the raiding warriors who roamed the sea. As early as 1009 - 1013, he went to Britain to participate in the fierce battle between the Anglo-Saxons and the Danes there (first supporting the Danes, and then siding with Ethireid II of England). Later, he went to Spain. In 1014, Olaf was baptized in the French city of Rouen and has unswervingly believed in Christianity since then. In 1015, he returned to Norway and recovered the land previously occupied by Denmark and Sweden. The following year, he consolidated his rule over all of Norway and began to enforce Christianity in Norway. In order to convert his subjects who had long believed in Nordic gods, he did not hesitate to adopt some cruel policies.
A religious code was promulgated in Moster in 1024 and is considered to be the first national legislation in Norway. In 1027, Olaf II allied with Sweden to attack Denmark under the rule of Knut the Great. He was defeated and fled to the ancient city of Novgorod. Canute the Great took the opportunity to take the throne of Norway. On July 29, 1030, Olaf II returned to his country and was killed in the Battle of Stiklestad in an attempt to regain the throne.
