Taiwan's attempt to "return to the United Nations" on September 20, 1995 failed for three consecutive years
Thirty years ago today, on September 20, 1995 (August 26, 1995, the lunar calendar), Taiwan's attempt to "return to the United Nations" failed for three consecutive years. On September 20, 1995, the General Committee of the 50th session of the United Nations General Assembly decided not to include the proposal put forward by Nicaragua and a few other countries on the agenda of this session of the General Assembly. The Taiwan authorities 'attempt to "return to the United Nations" failed for the third consecutive year. In recent years, the Taiwan authorities have clamored for "returning to" or "joining" the United Nations and used "silver bullet diplomacy" to induce a few countries to plot to include Taiwan's "representation" proposal on the agenda of the UN General Assembly. This year's "proposal" is similar to the previous two, repeating the old tune of the so-called "universal membership principle" and "parallel representation model", and was once again sternly refuted by many participants. Ambassador Qin Huasun, Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations, pointed out in his speech: "The Taiwan issue is purely an internal affair of China, and no country has the right to interfere or interfere. proposing "taiwan's representation in the united nations" for any reason and in any form is a serious infringement on China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, a gross interference in China's internal affairs, and a threat to regional stability and world peace. Such an act will surely be opposed by the government and people of China and the vast number of peace-loving Member States, and is therefore doomed to failure." Representatives from 28 countries spoke in support of the solemn position of the representative of China. They are: Sudan, Macedonia, Mongolia, Brazil, Bolivia, Kuwait, Laos, Iran, Kazakhstan, Libya, Mauritania, Algeria, Lebanon, Russia, Namibia, Yemen, Myanmar, Kenya, Pakistan, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Benin, Ukraine, Egypt, Afghanistan and Botswana. The representative of Pakistan said that Resolution 2758 adopted by the 26th UN General Assembly has fairly and thoroughly resolved the issue of China's representation in the United Nations. The resolution clearly declares that "the representatives of the government of the People's Republic of China are the only legal representatives of China in the United Nations." Therefore, calling for the issue of Taiwan's "representation" to be included in the agenda of the General Assembly violates the General Assembly resolutions, and Pakistan firmly opposes it. He pointed out that Taiwan is an integral part of the People's Republic of China and has nothing to do with universal membership or parallel representation. The representative of Egypt emphasized that the Cairo Declaration and UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 clearly declared that Taiwan is part of China. There is only one China in the world, and that is the People's Republic of China. Taiwan's "representation rights" proposal violates China's sovereignty and interferes in China's internal affairs. Egypt opposes the inclusion of such a proposal on the agenda of the UN General Assembly. Diogo Ferretas do Amaral, President of the current UN General Assembly, who presided over the General Committee meeting, announced after the representative made a speech that among the 28 members of the General Committee with voting rights, only 3 countries supported Taiwan's "representation" proposal, so he decided not to include the proposal on the agenda of this UN General Assembly. Without any objection, he made the final decision. Taiwan's attempt to "return" to the United Nations once again failed. After the General Committee made the decision, Ambassador Qin Huasun told reporters that the Taiwan authorities 'activities in an attempt to split the motherland in disregard of national interests failed in the past two years, failed again this year, and will fail again in the future. The Taiwan authorities should rein in at the brink of the precipice, otherwise they will become a sinner for thousands of years. The decision of the General Committee once again stated that the majority of Member States of the United Nations seriously safeguard the dignity of the United Nations Charter and General Assembly resolutions.
