On this day, 38 years ago, July 27, 1987 (June 2, 1987, the Southern Committee was formed. Southern Council, also known as the Southern Center. According to the decision of the Second Intergovernmental South-South Conference in Kuala Lumpur in May 1986, the establishment of the South Commission was announced at the 9th Summit of Non-Aligned Countries held in September of the same year, and its current name was changed in 1990. Former Tanzanian President Nyerere was elected chairman. On July 27, 1987, Nyerere announced the composition of the Southern Committee. The 28 members are all well-known politicians, scholars and celebrities from third world countries, including Qian Jiadong, the permanent ambassador of China to the United Nations agencies in Geneva. Members work in their personal capacity. Headquartered in Geneva. The organization aims to coordinate and promote South-South cooperation and North-South dialogue, and promote unity and cooperation among third world countries. Its main task is to study the situation of South-South cooperation based on the international political and economic situation, especially the economic difficulties faced by southern countries, formulate South-South cooperation plans and promote the development of South-South cooperation. At the ninth conference in Caracas in August 1990, the final report of "Challenges to the South" was presented and sent to leaders and relevant organizations around the world. The report covers three aspects: development of the South, South-South cooperation and North-South relations. It not only proposes the direction of "self-reliant and people-centered development." In view of the unfavorable prospects for the South in North-South relations and the development of grouping of northern countries, the report calls on southern countries to attach importance to collective power and puts forward a set of recommendations to strengthen South-South cooperation.
