On this day, 39 years ago, May 17, 1986 (April 9, 1986 in the lunar calendar), 37 years after the Taiwan Strait was separated, the first historic contact occurred. On May 3, 1986, a Boeing 747F cargo plane of Taiwan's China Airlines landed at Guangzhou Baiyun Airport. Captain Wang Xijue asked to return to the mainland to settle. The Civil Aviation Administration of China immediately called China Airlines of Taiwan and invited it to discuss relevant matters. Starting from May 17, representatives of Civil Aviation and China Airlines negotiated and signed minutes of the talks in Hong Kong. On the 23rd, the two parties handled the handover of cargo aircraft, cargo and two other crew members in Hong Kong. This was the first historic contact 37 years after the separation of the Strait.
